The Cause that is happening in Bat Night is the big bat that is attacking the people that are there to studying the smaller bats and when things get out of control, a boy has to make a BIG decision on whether to live and be miserable or die and be brave. I cannot tell you his choice but I will tell you this... He has to make a MAJOR sacrifice.
The effect is that he makes a sacrifice to put his own father in serious danger to lure the sacred creature towards the camp. Once the creature is there, Jake's father is supposed to climb out of the cage when a major tragedy happens in the book Jake has to decide whether to let this creature go and risk letting other innocent lives be ruined... No! He isn't he is going to KILL this ferocious beast and make his father finally proud of him.
Jake may be a kid by age, but he is and adult mentally. Jake knew what he had to do and he did it.
